Jaroslav Benedík is the new Chief of Cardiac Surgery

On Monday, 22 January, doc. MUDr. Jaroslav Benedík, Ph.D., who comes to Homolka with many years of experience from cardiac centres in the Czech Republic and abroad.

 

Doc. MUDr. Jaroslav Benedík, Ph.D. served as deputy head of the clinic in Pilsen and as head of the Centre for Treatment of Thoracic Aortic Aneurysm at the Na Homolce Hospital. After more than ten years of experience abroad, he worked as Deputy Head of the Department of Cardiovascular and Transplant Surgery in Essen, Germany, and Deputy Head of the Department of Cardiovascular Surgery Helios in Krefeld.  

 

The experience of doc. Benedik's experience covers the entire spectrum of cardiac surgery and treatment of congenital heart disease in adulthood, including minimally invasive cardiac surgery with maximum emphasis on valve replacement surgery.

 

The new chief of cardiac surgery's main specialty is aortic surgery. He is among the recognized experts in the field of aortic valve reconstruction, where he has developed his own innovative method in relation to the selection of an appropriate prosthesis. With his own method of measurement and instruments used, he has also contributed to the so-called Ozaki surgical technique, which consists in the complete replacement of the aortic valve, modeled from its own pericardium, one of the most gentle surgical solutions for aortic stenosis (narrowing) or aortic regurgitation (non-fibrillation).

 

The main specialty of the new Chief of Cardiac Surgery is aortic surgery. He is one of the recognized experts in the field of aortic valve reconstruction, where he has developed his own innovative method in relation to the selection of a suitable prosthesis. With his own method of measurement and instruments used, he has also contributed to the so-called Ozaki surgical technique, which consists in the complete replacement of the aortic valve, modeled from its own pericardium, one of the most gentle surgical solutions for aortic stenosis (narrowing) or aortic regurgitation (non-fibrillation).  

Doc. Benedík also acts as a lecturer of the Ozaki technique as part of his pan-European educational activities. His other areas of interest are coronary artery surgery without the use of extracorporeal circulation and the use of arterial grafts in coronary surgery. Last but not least, he is interested in the problem of aneurysms (aneurysms) of the heart caused by severe post-infarction conditions or congenital heart defects. 

In addition to his cardiac surgery work, doc. Benedík also devotes himself to academic work and teaching students.

 

The Cardiac Surgery Department is a key and integral part of the Cardiac Centre of the Na Homolce Hospital, whose future development is continued by doc. Benedík will follow the work of his predecessors. The Cardiac Centre is based on close cooperation of key disciplines at Homolka, such as cardiology, vascular surgery, radiology and cardiac anaesthesia. It offers patients comprehensive care and the most advanced therapeutic methods for heart and vascular diseases.
