600th robotic vascular surgery at Homolka

In 2006, robotic-assisted abdominal aortic surgery became a unique procedure in the world. The pioneer of robotic vascular surgery is the Chief of Vascular Surgery Prof. Petr Štádler. Thanks to almost 20 years of experience and the new generation of the Da Vinci robot, vascular surgeons are able to perform increasingly demanding procedures and a wider range of operations. Abdominal aortic aneurysm surgery, in which the affected part is replaced with a vascular prosthesis, can be performed either open, endovascularly, laparoscopically or robotically. Each option has its own rationale. Robotic surgery is the most gentle for the patient after endovascular surgery. The patient has several small punctures on the abdomen instead of an incision and recovers faster and has a negligible risk of developing a scar hernia.
