Patients from throughout the Czech Republic have free access to treatment in our wards and outpatient clinic. Appointments for examination can easily be arranged by telephone, fax or email and our physicians will be happy to take care of you.

If you are suffering from any condition that affects your "ears, nose or mouth", please do not hesitate to attend our facility for treatment. Many cases can be dealt with by conservative pharmacological means. In the event your condition is more serious or your prescribed drugs are not having the required effect, we can generally perform a minor operation, which will only involve you spending one to three days at the hospital, and your problem will be speedily dealt with. It is always better to act sooner rather than later!

History of the Department

The ENT Department at Na Homolce Hospital has had a relatively short history. However, since its opening in 1989, the department has experienced dynamic growth, particularly in terms of the diversity of services it provides. The original outpatient clinic, which was part of the hospital outpatient unit, was expanded under the leadership of the department´s head, Dr. Jan Paska, to include a small ward unit with 10 beds and soon afterwards Na Homolce´s ENT Department became one of the leading centers of its type, not only in terms of the range of therapeutic interventions it could offer, but also in their number.

Areas of Interest

ENT, or otorhinolaryngology, concerns the treatment of diseases affecting the area of the head and neck.

We treat a wide range of diseases in our outpatient department - starting with common colds or tonsillitis and moving on to complicated disorders of the nose, throat and ears, including treatment of cancerous conditions. Specialized outpatient units focus on hearing disorders such as defective hearing or tinnitus; we also deal with balance disorders and vertigo in collaboration with the Department of Neurology, while our rhinology clinic diagnoses problems concerning the nasal airways and sinuses and provides specialized treatment for chronic colds and chronic sinusitis.

Another area of our work involves the voice, where we diagnose and treat disorders affecting the vocal cords and the larynx. This also includes surgical treatment, starting with microsurgical interventions and moving through to extensive and complex operations for malignant conditions. Working together with an external voice therapy center, we are able to diagnose early signs of serious diseases of the vocal cords and to apply appropriate treatment. A significant part of our work covers the treatment of hearing disorders. We have ultra-modern equipment to help us discover a whole range of hearing problems and these precise findings enable us to apply the most appropriate treatment. We not only deal with hearing disorders that have occurred suddenly - for example when hearing has been damaged by excessive noise volumes (at concerts, discotheques, shooting ranges or even using the lawnmower during weekends), but also with long-term problems, which we can often help through special microsurgical operations.

Another group of surgical interventions concern operations on the thyroid gland. Here we perform a whole range of operations, from partial interventions through to major operations that also include removing the entire gland. We work together with endocrinologists to provide comprehensive post-operative care. A series of diseases require close collaboration between different specialists. We collaborate with the Department of Neurology on the treatment of balance disorders, the hospital also has a unit equipped with a state-of-the-art Leksell gamma knife to treat tumors of the auditory nerve, while we also cooperate with the oral surgery and neurosurgery departments to perform demanding operations on the bones of the face and the base of the skull. We have also developed good working relations with specialists in allergology and immunology - particularly as concerns the treatment of chronic rhinitis or chronic sinusitis. A large section of our work relates to patients with tumors. We carry out detailed diagnostics, surgical treatment and follow-up care together with specialist oncologists.

In no particular order, we can mention here the possibility of setting up an individual treatment plan, the option of luxury rooms for ward patients, the possibility of obtaining a digitalized record of your examination results and even a video recording of your operation.
