About us
The Department of Nuclear Medicine is one of the hospital's complementary departments and provides imaging and laboratory diagnostic services to patients from throughout the country who are referred to us by their physicians.
Medical imaging has been enabled by positron emission tomography (PET) since 1999 and the hybrid positron emission and computer tomography (PET/CT) modality, which is a cutting-edge diagnostic tool for oncological and certain inflammatory diseases has been available since 2003. Our unit was the first in the Czech Republic to bring these methods into clinical practice and it is now one of the largest in Europe.
These methods, alongside scintigraphy and single photon emission tomography (SPECT), are available at the Prague PET Centrum building, on the hospital premises. The Department of Nuclear Medicine Laboratory is located in the main hospital building and measures concentrations of hormones and other biological substances in the blood using immunoanalytic methods.
The Department´s quality management system complies with ISO 9001:2000 norms. The Det Norske Veritas company has also awarded it certificate no. 00082-2004-AQ-PRG-RvA, valid until 28.6.2007 for: The provision of diagnostic services using laboratory immunoanalysis and the following imaging methods - scintigraphy, computer, single photon and positron emission tomography (CT, SPECT, PET) as well as the preparation of radio-pharmaceuticals. more >>
The PET Center is a model project for the International Agency for Atomic Energy. Because of this it is a source of practical experience and information for newly established bodies both in the Czech Republic and in many other countries. It also acts as a training center.
The International Agency for Atomic Energy contributed to the building of the Prague PET Centrum, providing equipment, professional help and staff training programs. This contribution is highly appreciated.
