The Department of Clinical Microbiology and Antibiotic Center is a newly equipped laboratory diagnostic unit of Na Homolce Hospital, dealing with clinical microbiological diagnostics of infectious diseases and complications in hospital, outpatient and primary care.  The department provides a consultancy service focusing on their treatment, prophylaxis and prevention.  The specialized Antibiotic Center is active in trying to influence the quality of antibiotics used and to control resistance to antibiotics.

The principle activities of the specialized departmental staff are primarily:

• laboratory microbiological diagnosis of infectious diseases and complications
• clinical microbiological consultancy
• advice on the best use of antibiotics
• antibiotic policies in hospital, outpatient and primary care
• surveillance and control of antibiotic resistance
• surveillance and control of nosocomial infections
